A major 6.7 earthquake hit the New Ireland region of Papua New Guinea, on Saturday, July 28, 2012, at 20:04:00 UTC, at a depth of 66.7 km (41.4 mi).

 USGS:  A major 6.3 earthquake hit the New Britain region of Papua New Guinea on 10/18/11 at 05:05:04 UTC, at a depth of 9.9 km (6.2 mi).
